1. Tooling Ownership & Amortization

Does the manufacturer own the tooling workshop, or do they outsource EDM wire-cutting? For OEM programs, request explicit tooling amortization terms (e.g., tooling fee refunded after 500,000 pieces).

2. Raw Powder Formulation vs. Standard Pre-Calcined Sourcing

Tier 1 ferrite manufacturers formulate their own Strontium/Barium slurry to adjust for shrinkage and magnetic properties. Lower-tier factories just buy pre-calcined powder and press it. Formulators offer much higher Br consistency across 5+ year programs.

3. Quality Yield Rate (Pass Rate)

Ask for their internal scrap rate for grinding and chipping. Ferrite is brittle; if their internal defect rate during ID/OD grinding is higher than 8%, their pricing will either be artificially inflated to cover scrap, or they will sneak borderline-chipped parts into your shipment.

4. ISO/TS 16949 / IATF 16949 Certification

If you are sourcing for automotive DC motors, standard ISO 9001 is insufficient. The manufacturer must hold IATF 16949 and be prepared to submit Level 3 PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) documents, including FMEA and Control Plans.

A reliable RFQ should include drawing revision, grade target, annual demand, destination market, and timeline.
